Cancer Care

    Lung Cancer

    Biomarker-first, precision-driven lung cancer care.

    Overview

Lung cancer treatment has been transformed by molecular profiling, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. At Global Cancer Care, every newly diagnosed lung cancer patient receives comprehensive biomarker testing so treatment can be matched to the specific driver of the tumour — improving survival and reducing unnecessary toxicity. Care is coordinated with pulmonology, thoracic surgery and radiation oncology.

    Common Symptoms

    • Persistent cough or change in the character of a chronic cough
    • Coughing up blood, even in small amounts
    • Shortness of breath, wheezing or hoarseness
    • Chest, shoulder or back pain that does not resolve
    • Unexplained weight loss, fatigue or recurrent chest infections

    Risk Factors

    • Active or past tobacco smoking, including bidis and hookah
    • Passive (second-hand) smoke exposure at home or work
    • Long-term exposure to air pollution and indoor biomass smoke
    • Occupational exposure to asbestos, radon, silica or diesel exhaust
    • Family history of lung cancer or prior lung disease

    Diagnosis

    • Low-dose CT screening for high-risk individuals
    • PET-CT for accurate staging and treatment planning
    • Bronchoscopy, EBUS or CT-guided lung biopsy
    • Comprehensive molecular profiling — EGFR, ALK, ROS1, BRAF, KRAS, MET, RET, HER2, NTRK
    • PD-L1 immunohistochemistry to guide immunotherapy

    Treatment Options

    • Curative surgery (lobectomy) for early-stage disease
    • Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for select early cancers
    • Targeted therapy for actionable mutations (EGFR, ALK, ROS1, KRAS G12C and others)
    • Immunotherapy alone or combined with chemotherapy
    • Concurrent chemo-radiation for locally advanced disease
    • Palliative radiotherapy and structured symptom management

    Dr. Shivam Shingla's Expertise

Dr. Shivam trained in advanced lung cancer at the University of Zurich and treats lung cancer with a strict biomarker-first philosophy — no patient starts therapy before knowing the molecular signature of their tumour. This precision approach avoids ineffective drugs and improves both survival and quality of life.

    Frequently Asked Questions

I have never smoked. Can I still get lung cancer?+

Yes. A significant number of lung cancers in India occur in never-smokers, often driven by EGFR or ALK mutations. These cancers usually respond very well to targeted therapy.

Is immunotherapy suitable for every lung cancer patient?+

Not for everyone. We test PD-L1 and rule out targetable mutations first. Immunotherapy works best in specific subgroups and is chosen only when the biology supports it.

    Is lung cancer always fatal?+

No. Early-stage lung cancer can be cured with surgery, and even in advanced disease, targeted and immune therapies now deliver long, meaningful survival for many patients.
